Individuals throughout Long Island and the New York metropolitan area rely on Farrell Fritz to help preserve, protect, and disburse their assets. Owners of closely held and family businesses rely on our trusts & estates attorneys for complete business succession and tax planning, as well as estate planning and administration.

Estate Planning Focused on Minimizing Taxes

Our estate planning attorneys possess an in-depth knowledge of the legal, tax, and personal issues that often accompany planning an estate. Individuals, families, and trust departments of major financial institutions depend on Farrell Fritz to manage the complex task of estate planning. We understand all aspects of estate planning, including the transfer of closely held businesses to the next generation, asset protection, planned giving, and private foundations—all with an emphasis on minimizing the impact of estate, gift, and income taxes. Our deep experience in drafting complex wills and trusts ensures that our clients’ wishes are carried out.

Extensive Estate Litigation Experience

The experienced estate litigation lawyers at Farrell Fritz have handled some of the most complex, high-profile cases in New York, including the estates of Doris Duke, Jean Stralem, Andy Warhol, Arthur Sackler, Brooke Astor, and Huguette Clark.

Our estate litigation team combines extensive experience in taxation, acute understanding of estate planning and administration, and in-depth knowledge of the Surrogate’s Court practice and procedure, offering the skill and expertise required for any estate proceeding. Our attorneys have successfully represented individuals and entities in a broad range of Surrogate’s Court litigation, including contested probate proceedings, contested fiduciary accounting proceedings, proceedings for the discovery and turnover of estate or trust assets, and other proceedings involving fiduciary duties and responsibilities, confidential relationships, investment performance, interests in closely held corporations, and matters involving undue influence.

In addition to Surrogate’s Court matters, our estate litigators have appeared in estate-related matters in many other judicial settings, including appellate courts, federal district court, tax court, and state Supreme Court.

Efficient Estate Administration for Optimal Results

The Farrell Fritz estate administration team efficiently manages the disposition of clients’ estates and trusts. Our trust and estate administrators address the needs of surviving family members, executors, and trustees to obtain optimal results in the management and disposition of trust and estate assets. We provide advice and representation on federal and New York State estate, gift, and income tax issues that affect estates, trusts, beneficiaries, and fiduciaries.
