Farrell Fritz Attorneys Recognized as Contributing Editors for the American Bar Association’s Tax Section 2024 State Tax Law Military VITA Resource Guide

March 07, 2024

The American Bar Association’s Tax Section recently recognized the pro bono contributions of Michelle E. Espey, Colleen E. Spain, and Jesse Frost as contributing editors to the 2024 State Tax Law Military VITA Resource Guide. This comprehensive guide, aimed at providing essential information on state income tax topics for members of the military, has been updated and maintained through the dedicated efforts of volunteers like Espey, Spain, and Frost.

In the winter of 2020/2021, the Tax Section undertook the responsibility of updating and maintaining the State Tax Guide inherited from the military. This guide serves as a vital resource for military personnel involved in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, particularly those required to navigate state tax laws across various jurisdictions without comprehensive training on the subject.

Each state was adopted by volunteers from the Tax Section who diligently updated the guide to ensure its relevance and accuracy. The collaborative efforts of these volunteers have resulted in a valuable reference tool for military members, aiding them in completing tax returns and addressing state-specific tax issues.

The 2024 State Tax Law Military VITA Resource Guide stands as a testament to the spirit of pro bono service within the legal community.
