Jon N. Santemma

Jon N. Santemma is counsel to the firm concentrating in tax certiorari law.

He frequently lectures to educational and professional organizations on condemnation and tax certiorari topics. He is editor and co-author of the 2005 Condemnation Law and Procedures in New York and co-editor and co-author of the 2000 supplement to the Review and Reduction of Real Property Assessments in New York, both published by the NYS Bar Association.

Prior to joining Farrell Fritz in 2012, Mr. Santemma was a partner at Santemma & Deutsch LLP, a firm he founded in 1998, which concentrated in real estate tax review and eminent domain law. He was a partner at Jaspan Schlesinger Hoffman LLP (presently Jaspan Schlesinger LLP) from 2003 to 2008. He was a founding partner of Santemma and Murphy and predecessor firms from 1971-1987. Mr. Santemma served as trustee to the Incorporated Village of Laurel Hollow from 1980-1997. Early in his career, Mr. Santemma was law secretary to the Hon. Howard T. Hogan, administrative judge of Nassau County (1966-1971). He assisted the court in deciding complex valuation questions involving countless parcels of property in eminent domain and real estate tax assessment proceedings.

Mr. Santemma is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association. He served as its president and chairman of the building expansion committee from 1979-1980. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association; he served on the NYSBA's House of Delegates from 2003-2007 and as vice president of the executive committee from 1981-1991. He is also a member of the Empire State Society and the American Bar Association. Mr. Santemma is active in the Fordham Law Alumni Association; he was president of the Long Island Chapter in 1989. He is a founding trustee of the Nassau Suffolk Chapter's student scholarship.

Mr. Santemma serves on the board of directors of The Maurer Foundation, an organization dedicated to breast health education. He has received numerous recognitions for his professional, community and charitable endeavors. 1976, he received the Outstanding Man of the Year in Law award from C. W. Post Faculty of Business Administration.

Mr. Santemma earned his law degree from Fordham University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University. He is admitted to practice in New York.

Mr. Santemma has an AV Preeminent Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating.
