Getting Paid: Attorney Fee Awards in Surrogate’s Court

Robert M. Harper will be a presenter at the New York State Bar Association CLE “Getting Paid: Attorney Fee Awards in Surrogate’s Court.”

This program will address a subject that is near and dear to many attorneys’ hearts: how to justify attorneys’ fees in Surrogate’s Court matters. Among the topics that will be covered are the forums for the resolution of fee disputes in trusts and estates matters, the factors that Surrogate’s Courts apply in fixing attorneys’ fees, the allocation of fees among parties to Surrogate’s Court proceedings, the enforceability of contingent-fee arrangements in Surrogate’s Court matters, and the use of personal guaranties in engagement letters.
