Touro Law to Honor Farrell Fritz Partner, Ilene S. Cooper, as Adjunct Professor of the Year

On Sunday, May 29, 2011, Farrell Fritz trusts and estates partner, Ilene S. Cooper, will be presented with the Adjunct Professor of the Year award at Touro Law’s commencement ceremony. Each year, students and faculty are asked to submit nominations for various awards. The Graduation Awards Committee, comprised of administration, faculty and students, reviews the nominations and selects a winner for each award. Ms. Cooper has been a professor at Touro for seventeen years and is honored to be receiving this award. She also serves on the school’s Board of Governors.

Ms. Cooper, a Huntington resident, practices trusts and estates litigation in Surrogate’s Courts throughout the New York Metropolitan area. She is a frequent contributor to Farrell Fritz’s New York Trusts & Estates Litigation blog . Ms. Cooper is the immediate past president of the Suffolk County Bar Association and is the Chair-Elect of the New York State Bar Association’s Trust and Estates Law Section. She is a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation and of the American College of Trust and Estate Council. Ms. Cooper has drafted or co-drafted numerous pieces of legislation related to child advocacy which have been signed into law. In addition to her professional activities, she was appointed to the Suffolk County Youth Board Coordination Council, which advises the County Executive on matters pertaining to children and youth. Additionally, Ms. Cooper serves on the board of Friends of Karen, The Hills Foundation, the Suffolk County Child Care Council, Child Abuse Prevention Services, Half Hollow Hills Business Advisory Council, Children’s Medical Fund Corporate Alliance and on the Honorary Board of the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Ms. Cooper earned her Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University.
