Shooting for Scholarships

January 01, 2010

Basketball scholarships often provide the only viable opportunity for underprivileged young men and women to achieve their dreams of a college education. Unfortunately, many who have the requisite skills on the court are unable to attend college due to a lack of educational opportunities growing up. In 2004, Farrell Fritz teamed up with a visionary basketball coach on the East End of Long Island. The coach was looking to help young people in his area make the cut and qualify academically to continue their education. Theresa Quigley from the firm’s East Hampton office, along with members of the firm’s tax practice group, including Louis Vlahos, helped the coach establish a non-profit organization to provide both basketball training and educational help on a local basis. Thanks to this group, more talented young people on the East End are entering college fully equipped to succeed both on the court and in the classroom.
