James M. Wicks Appointed to the New York State Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law

Congratulations to Farrell Fritz partner, James M. Wicks, on his recent appointment by Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman to the New York State Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law. This is a permanent commission comprised of judges, legal practitioners, academics and lay persons, dedicated to promoting professionalism in the legal community. The Institute serves as a forum to encourage and promote awareness and adherence to professional values and ethical behavior by New York attorneys.

Mr. Wicks concentrates his practice in business and commercial litigation, representing businesses, financial institutions and individuals in federal and state trial courts, as well as in arbitrations, involving a variety of matters.

Mr. Wicks is an elected Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America™ and a Life Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. He is both co-chair of the Ethics and Professionalism Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Section on Commercial and Federal Litigation. He was appointed to the S.D.N.Y./E.D.N.Y. Joint Committee on Local Rules in 2009. In 2008, he was appointed to the New York State Bar Association’s Task Force on the State of Our Courthouses. Mr. Wicks is a member of the Federal Bar Council’s Central Islip United States Courthouse Committee, a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Judicial Screening Committee and a member of the Eastern District Committee on Civil Litigation. He is also an adjunct professor at St. John’s University School of Law.

Mr. Wicks was named to the 2008 and 2009 New York Super Lawyers® – Metro Edition (Business Litigation). In addition, he was selected for inclusion in the 2009 and 2010 Super Lawyers® – Corporate Counsel Edition as a “Top Attorney in Business Litigation.”
