Ilene S. Cooper Installed as Third Female President of Suffolk County Bar Association in 101 Year History

On Thursday, June 4, Farrell Fritz trusts and estates partner, Ilene S. Cooper, was installed as President of the Suffolk County Bar Association. Ms. Cooper will serve a one year term. Sheryl L. Randazzo, Matthew E. Pachman, Arthur E. Shulman, Dennis R. Chase and William T. Ferris, III were also installed as officers. Cheryl F. Mintz, Lynn Poster-Zimmerman, Richard L. Stern and Kerie P. Stone were installed as directors. The installation took place at the Suffolk County Bar Association’s 101st Annual Dinner Dance and Judiciary Night held at Oheka Castle.

“I hope to strengthen the organization by encouraging diversity, community outreach and long range planning. I seek to broaden the base of membership involvement county-wide, through increased membership benefits and programs, and complimentary events,” Cooper said. “This diverse and talented group of individuals will work together to continue to make the Association prosper.”

Ms. Cooper is a columnist for the Suffolk Lawyer, a publication of the Suffolk County Bar Association. She serves on the Advisory Committee of the Suffolk Academy of Law, is a member of the Association’s Surrogate’s Court Committee, its Professional Committee and is one of the founding members of the Association’s Scholarship Fund.

Ms. Cooper is treasurer of the New York State Bar Association Trusts and Estates Law Section, a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation and a member of the House of Delegates. In addition, she is a member of the Theodore Roosevelt American Inn of Court. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Council and Suffolk County’s Pro Bono Action Committee. Ms. Cooper is a former member of the Special Committee on Fiduciary Appointments.

Ms. Cooper is a professor of law at Touro Law School. She is a board member of numerous organizations, including The Hills Foundation, the Suffolk County Child Care Council, Child Abuse Prevention Services, Half Hollow Hills Business Advisory Council, Children’s Medical Fund Corporate Alliance, Touro Law School’s Board of Governors, Long Island Women’s Agenda and the Suffolk County Youth Board Coordination Council. She also serves on the Honorary Board of the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
