Helping a Social Services Agency Sell Real Estate

July 26, 2011

The Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1976. Its assists and empowers victims of domestic violence and seeks to prevent such violence through a variety of services. It accomplishes its goals through a 24-hour hotline, a precinct outreach project, legal assistance, employment advocacy, community and youth education, and counseling services for adults and children. SCCADV also owns The Safe Harbor Shelter, which provides safety and shelter for victims of domestic violence.

The United Way of Long Island referred a potential sale of an obsolete residence shelter to Peter Curry, a commercial, banking, and real estate attorney. Peter used his extensive real estate law experience to help the SCCADV sell the building and satisfy ancient mortgages. All went smoothly, and SCCADV used the proceeds of the sale to continue its mission.
