Five Farrell Fritz Partners Named to 2010 Super Lawyers List

Farrell Fritz congratulates five attorneys on being selected for inclusion in the 2010 New York Super Lawyers®. The five partners and the areas of law for which they have been recognized are John J. Barnosky, Ilene S. Cooper and John R. Morken (Estate & Trust Litigation); and John P. McEntee and James M. Wicks (Business Litigation).

Super Lawyers® is a listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Attorneys are selected using a rigorous, multiphase process. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with third party research. Each candidate is evaluated on twelve indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis.

John J. Barnosky’s practice focuses on estate litigation; estate planning, probate and administration of estates and trusts; and taxation. He was included in The Best of the U.S.’s 2008 List of the Best Lawyers in the U.S. and has been named one of the Best Trusts & Estates Lawyers in America by American Lawyer. Mr. Barnosky serves on the EPTL/SCPA Advisory Committee established by the NYS Legislature and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). He is the former chair of the Estate and Trust Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association.

Ilene S. Cooper practices trusts and estates litigation in Surrogate’s Courts throughout the Metropolitan area. She is the immediate past president of the Suffolk County Bar Association and a Member at Large and Treasurer of the New York State Bar Association’s Trust and Estate Law Section. She is a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation and of the American College of Trust and Estate Council. Ms. Cooper is an adjunct professor at Touro Law School. She has drafted or co-drafted numerous pieces of legislation related to child advocacy which have been signed into law.

John P. McEntee concentrates his practice in commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels in a variety of commercial and business disputes. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, he was selected for inclusion in the Super Lawyers® – Corporate Counsel Edition list (“Top Attorney in Business Litigation”). Mr. McEntee has twice been selected by Long Island Business News in its listing of “Who’s Who in the Law” on Long Island. In 2002, he was recognized by the New York Law Journal for having obtained the highest jury verdict in New York State. Mr. McEntee is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA)™ and of the New York Bar Foundation. He is the Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the Nassau County Bar Association.

John R. Morken concentrates his practice in trusts and estates litigation in the Surrogate’s Courts and other trial and appellate courts throughout New York. He is chair of the Legislation Committee of the Trusts and Estates Section of the New York Bar Association and is a member of the Section’s Executive Committee. In 2001, Mr. Morken was elected to the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

James M. Wicks concentrates his practice in business and commercial litigation. In 2010, Mr. Wicks was appointed by Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman to the New York State Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law. He is an elected Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA)™ and a Life Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. In 2009 and 2010, Mr. Wicks was selected for inclusion in the Super Lawyers® – Corporate Counsel Edition list (“Top Attorney in Business Litigation”). He is an adjunct professor at St. John’s University School of Law, where he was named Adjunct Professor of the Year for 2008.
