Drug court ceremony celebrates second chances

Deborah Kooperstein considers Friday, September 19 her “happiest day of the year”. On this day, tears of joy filled the Southampton Town Hall as graduation for the East End Regional Intervention Court was held. This court is a rehabilitation program for non-violent drug offenders and is a collaborative effort between Southampton and Riverhead that offers participants a second chance. Brian Doyle is legal counsel for one of this year’s graduates, Ashley Ross, who he describes as a “remarkable young woman”.
