Long Island Community Chest

January 01, 2010

Despite the many public and private agencies that provide social services in our region, there are still many people who fall through the cracks, according to Farrell Fritz Partner, Thomas Killeen, a member of the firm’s Corporate practice group. This prompted Thomas to join with other concerned Long Island businesspeople to close some of those cracks by creating the Long Island Community Chest.

This unique non-profit organization reaches out to Long Islanders who have suffered severe economic or personal tragedy and are unable to obtain assistance from other support channels. It provides immediate short-term financial support, with the goal of returning the individual or family to self-sufficiency. Taking care of such needs as paying overdue bills, finding a special wheelchair or even repairing a car can often make a world of difference for the organization’s clients.

For his role as a founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Community Chest, as well as his long commitment to pro bono work with other organizations, Tom has been honored by Long Island Elite, a leading business networking and mentoring organization for young executives.
