Ilene Sherwyn Cooper Elected Suffolk County Bar Association Representative to the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates

Farrell Fritz trusts and estates partner Ilene Sherwyn Cooper has been elected to serve as the Suffolk County Bar Association’s (SCBA) representative to the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) House of Delegates. She will serve a one-year term beginning June 1, 2013.

Ms. Cooper, a Dix Hills, NY resident, concentrates in trusts and estates litigation. She is the immediate past chair of the NYSBA’s 5,000+ member Trusts and Estates Law Section. She is the author of “Case Notes,” a quarterly column published in the NYSBA’s Trusts and Estates Newsletter. Together with members of the NYSBA’s Trusts and Estates Law Section, she drafted amendments to the Surrogate’s Court Procedure Act, which were later signed into law.

Ms. Cooper is a past president of the SCBA; a columnist for The Suffolk Lawyer; serves on the Suffolk Academy of Law’s Advisory Committee; a member of the Association’s Surrogate’s Court and Professionalism Committees; and is one of the founding members of the Association’s Scholarship Fund.

Ms. Cooper earned her Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University.

The House of Delegates is the decision and policy-making body of the Association. Actions taken by the House of Delegates becomes official NYSBA policy. There are presently 259 members in the House of Delegates.
