Describe a significant, successful matter in which you have been involved.
I was brought in by a client who was in the midst of a 10-year-long complex litigation matter involving multiple lawsuits in state and federal courts seeking more than $6 million in damages. I was able to bring a fresh perspective to the case and created an argument that convinced the opposition that their claim would not be successful. The result was a mediation that led to a global settlement of the matter, which required my client to pay nothing.
“Success is knowing that the result attained was the best possible outcome under the circumstances, a realization that can only be achieved through passionate, creative and unceasing advocacy.”
How do you approach a new lobbying and litigation matter?
My goal with every client is to identify the best possible outcome, provide a variety of strategies to help the client achieve their goals and explain to them, in plain English, the various legal and procedural hurdles associated with the strategies. Before embarking on any course of action, it is crucial the client has a thorough understanding of the time and cost involved, and the likelihood of success. Once the client determines their best approach, I work tirelessly to ensure that no effort is spared to realize that goal.
Why is giving back to the community important for you?
For four years, I served as a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region. This organization provides one-on-one mentoring for at-risk youth, which is something that is very personal and important to me. I would not be who I am today without the many mentors who took an interest in me out of the kindness of their hearts. That made a significant difference in my life, and I feel a responsibility to pay it forward.
